The Naked Basics is finally mine!!!!

Hello dear lovelies,

I know I know .. I did say I am not going to get it BUT it was given to me by my bestie ( thank you so much! *waving happily ). And here it is:

The casing is lovely; it feels like the casing of Vice palette. It is so sleek and compact therefore could easily fit into your makeup bag.

In my last post on this palette I gave you the dupes that was put together by Emily. However, after getting my hands on this baby and comparing it to my Coastal Scents 88 Warm Palette, I found that there are some variation to the ones that she recommended. Here is my take on the dupes:

In order of the colours in the palette are:
1. Venus    : 3rd column, 2nd from top
2. Foxy      : 7th column, 1st from top
3. W.O.F   : 7th column, 2nd from top
4. Naked 2: 7th column, 5th from top (my variation)
5. Fainted  : 11th column, 6th from top (my variation)
6. Crave    : 3rd column, 1st from bottom

So there you have it. It is different hearing it from someone to actually having it yourself and be able to swatch and compare. The colours in this palette are more to cool tone nudes; just like their Naked 2. I would envisage that I have to add some warm browns to make this colour orientation work for me.

Whatever it is I am absolutely overjoyed to recieve this that I actually shed my tears ... bliss :D. Crazy I know ;p but who cares!  It felt like Christmas!

I hope you ladies had a great day today like I did. Be nice to people ok and stay healthy.

Ciao

Naked 2 inspired iPhone 5 cover case

Hi lovelies,

Just received this in the mail today. Loving it! Thought I'd share it with all of you. Let me know what you think.

It is made of high quality plastic and the image print is awesome! Was a bit disappointed on the colour turnout because the original Naked 2 palette case is of a coppery colour and this one is a tinge green.....but overall I am really pleased with it.

Don't forget to follow me.

Review : Revlon Colorstay Foundation vs KATE Powderless Liquid forCover

Haiya makeup geeks

After close to two weeks, I am back with the verdict of my product smackdown.

As I have said in my earlier blog click here I will be testing these two products for their staying power, verify their claims of being suitable for combi to oily skin and their coverage. I have also added what I wish the product could have. So here they are:

1. Revlon Colorstay Foundation ( retaiking at MYR58.90 )

  •  Staying power - 9/10. Their claim is 24 hours but logically people do not usually wear their makeup that long but anyways I wore mine for more than 8 hours and yes I did not have to touch up.
  • Verify claim - 9/10. After more than 8 hours I detected only a hint of oil on my T-zone area. It did not grease on me. It was amazing as I do get greasy on that area after an hour of applying makeup.
  • Coverage - 9/10. It gives medium to full coverage. It made my skin looked flawless and I am not the type to slap on two layers of foundation. So with this one a little goes a long way. It does not feel cakey at all. It did not feel heavy as well so love the formula. It has a strong chemical smell though pretty mush like my Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation.
  • My wish - More colour selection as we only have about 5-6 colours here in Malaysia. The colour I bought was a ted darker for my skintone but it is bearable. Wish they come with a dispenser for easy dispensing.
2. KATE Powderless Liquid for Cover ( retailing at MYR 74.90 )
  • Staying power - 9/10. This product did not claim to have a time frame for staying power so it came to me as a surprised to see that it stayed on very well after 8 hours. No touch up required.
  • Verify claim - 8/10. There was a slight feel of greasiness after the 6th hour. My T-zone area did feel a bit 'heavy' ( for lack of a better word ) and whenever I feel that way I would have this automatic reflex of blotting with a tissue. However, I did not have to touch up after dabbing.
  • Coverage -  9/10. It gives medium to full coverage. Smooth application and I love the way the liquid turns to an almost powder like feeling. It feels extremely light on the skin that I do not feel like I have any foundation on. I also like that they do not have that strong chemical smell.
  • My wish - Again more colour selection. they come in 4 colours here at Watsons so it was a pain. the colour I picked was too dark for me so you can imagine how frustrating that was for me during the testing period. So I guess I have to mix this with a lighter colour foundation to have my pefect match.
So there you have it. I guess you can pretty much decide which one to pick. I must say that these two foundation is perfect for us who live in a hot and humid climate country. Both comes with SPF so that is great. Personally I would pick Revlon 1. for the price, and 2. for the colour. It is just too much work to mix and match for KATE. Sad because I do like the KATE's formulation ( that liquid to powder thing ).

:D Till my next post.. it is ciao for now.

Makeup Survival Kit - Essential Items In My Makeup Pouch

Hello lovelies

A lot of my friends are impressed with what I can pull out from my bag; particularly from my makeup pouch. I don't really have that many items in my makeup pouch to be honest. However, I do have the essential .. kinda like my makeup survival kit :D and I always have this pouch in my handbag.

The items are ( in a clockwise order):
1. MAC lipstick in Cosmo - a neutral pinkish brown lipstick that can go with almost any eye look.
2. Urban Decay 24/7 glide on eye pencil in Zero - a travel size basic black liner for touching up any eye look.
3. L'oreal Super Liner in Black Lacquer - jet black liquid liner.
4. Benefit Ultra Plush lip gloss in Bella Bamba - sheer juicy watermelon colour gloss that can compliment any lip colour.
5. Benefit They're Real mascara - a straight up black lengthening mascara. Again travel size. ❤
6. Mentholethum lip pure - a lip balm with pure honey ingredient.
7. Benefit POREfessional - a travel size primer/pore minimiser.
8. Roll on EDP - Dolce & Gabbana The One.
9. Urban Decay Primer Potion - a travel size eye primer to prime the lid before applying eye colour.
10. MAC lip liner in Softwood - a neutral pinkish brown colour.
11. Sephora colour compact - this cute little case is actually a part of a larger palette ( I think it was the 15th anniversary Sephora palette that has eye colours, lip glosses, gel liners, blushers and bronzers all in one. You can pick colours from the main palette and slot them in this mini palette case ). It holds 6 colour pans and 2 blusher/bronzer pans. I chose all neutral colours again for versatility.

I do carry a compact powder (a powder foundation type) for that mid day touch up. However, I do not put it in my makeup pouch as I alway put them in the side zipper of my handbag. I also have a mini brush set with me from Mary Kay which is about the size of a credit card holder. This brush set has a tiny mirror, a lip brush, I threw in a concealer brush by Bobbi Brown just because I can slot it in :p, a blusher/powder brush, a blending brush and a shader brush.

Another that I never go out without is my makeup wipes which I put together with my compact powder in my side zipper. Always always have them.

So there you have it, my very own survival kit for those emergencies because I am always on the go. I believe every girl should have one that is separate from the ones you have at home because you do not want to be randomly throwing things in you makeup pouch in the mornings. You will tend to forget things especially when you are in a rush.

And of course you put in items that you prefer. These are just items that I have and happen to love because they are full proof.

I hope this has helped you in putting together your own makeup survival kit and I had fun writing this post.

Here is a shot at the items I have in my makeup pouch :p and my cute mini brush set.

MAC Archie's Girls Collection for Spring 2013

Hello lovely ladies out there

Woohoo! Can you girls feel the buzz in the makeup cyber world of the coming of this collection? :) I must say this has caught me by surprise as it has been a while since I am excited about MAC's new launches until now. I mean honestly, the last time I went crazy was when they launched their Disney Villain collection! None of their collection after  that called out my name. You makeup junkies out there ... you know what I mean *wink2*

There are limited information on the collection; trust MAC in their ability to build up the excitement and have everyone waiting ;p. I have goggled and yes no one has been able to give more info about these babies.

As the name suggest, the products will centre around the beauty looks of the two iconic rivals; blonde and natural girl-next-door Betty and glamorous brunette and sizzling hot Veronica.

These are some (not all obviously) images and info that I have found to wet your appetite :D Looks to be a big collection so save up your money so you can buy what you want.

Personal take:
the Archie's Girls collections depicts sweet and fun colours and has heart details on their packaging. Obviously representing the blonde and brunette who constantly fought to win the heart of freckle faced Archie.

The next question will be .. Are you the sweet, soft hearted and pretty Betty or the hot, edgy and I-can-have-it-all Veronica girl? Or perhaps you are Archie who can't decide between the two? :p
Hehe whatever it is, you better be among the first to hit the store once these babies are out on the shelves as I believe they won't be there long!

Archie is my all time favourite comic. I have spent much of my pocket money during school for their digest. Love them to bits! So I am super excited about this and hope we don't have to wait long for it to come to this part of the world. In any case, I am going to make sure my consultant text me the night before the launch.

What about you? Are you excited about this collection? Leave your comments

Ciao for now!

My 6 Essential, Most Loved Brushes

Hi all

Other than my beloved makeup collection, my brushes are my babies. I can almost feel a panic rising in my chest with the thought of not having them :D really!

So these are my six essential most loved brushes that I use every single day in order from left to right .. err sorry in this case fanning from bottom top :p

1. Stipling brush    : ( Inglot 27TG ) This brush creates a beautiful air brush effect to the skin; can be used to apply liquid, powder and cream products. I use this brush primarily to apply my foundation as oppose to using a flat foundation brush. I just personally feel that this brush gives better application as in it does not leave streaks of foundation down on the skin.

2. Contour brush  : ( MAC 109 ) This brush is a dual purpose brush for me. Yes it is a contour brush perfect to do shading with but I also find that it is perfect for applying pressed powder or HD powder and even loose powder as well. I feel that it gives me better control than those big kabuki brush.

3. Blending brush : ( MAC 217 ) This is used to apply and blend powder or cream eye colours. It softens any harsh lines making the transition between colours seamless. I would use this to apply colours on the crease and blend the colour up to brow bone. I also use this to apply my highlight colour on to my brow bone. You can also use this to apply your concealer.

4. Shading brush  : ( MAC 239 ) This flat shader brush is perfect for packing on colours onto your lid. I have other shading brushes but they have not come close to effect that this can create. The density of the bristle picks up colours easily and distribute it beautifully on the lid. Love this so much.

5. Smudge brush  : ( Bobbi Brown ) I use this brush as my precision brush to the outer 'V' on my eye. Great for (as the brush is called) smudging out eye liner or eye colour on the lower lid. The one I have is a travel size hence explains the length of the handle ^^.

6. Angle blush brush : ( Benefit ) I use this to apply my blush on my cheeks. Because it is angular on shape makes it easier to work on the cheeks. You can also use this to do contouring on the hollows of your cheeks, jawline and temple

These are my six essential brushes used for my daily make up routine. Now, it is always good to invest in these brushes so that your make up application looks beautiful if not professional. Ladies, other than skills and techniques, the tools / brushes used to apply your make up does determine the results of your make up application.

Having said that, I also want to point out that these professional brushes are not cheap. I mean, the MAC brushes generally cost more then RM100 each. I didn't buy these brushes all at once. It took me a good one year or so to get all my brushes ( yes I have a full line of brushes).

For those who are planning to purchase professional brushes I suggest you go and check out Inglot's as their brushes are as good as MAC's but cost only half or less than that of half the price of a MAC.

Inglot stand alone stores can be found at Mid Valley Mega Mall and Sunway Pyramid. They also have a counter at Sogo KL.

I hope this post is helpful. Have a great day and thanks for stopping by. Don't forget to follow me ^^

Urban Decay Naked Basics is at Sephora Malaysia... and Dupes

Hello again lovelies,

Received a mailer from Sephora Malaysia today announcing the arrival of Urban Decay Naked Basics. I must say I was not that excited about this palette as I did the Naked Original and Naked 2 palettes ... but then again knowing me I would probably run over to the nearest Sephora to get it anyways :D simply because the palette looks so cute to have. Here it is compliments from Sephora.com:

Colours in this palette are Venus, Foxy, Walk of Shame, Naked 2, Fainted and Crave. The colours are pretty basic as it is called and was created as the multipurpose matte companion to the earlier two Nakeds.

Ok, the reason for this post is to kinda talk myself out of buying the palette (good luck to me) by having dupes for the colours in it *wink :D. Ladies I must mention here that my makeup gal Emily Noel (thanks Emily) has put this dupes together ... not me, but I would like to share anyway.

Now this is for those of you who owns the 88 Warm Palette by Coastal Scents. Here is a shot of my palette:

The dupes for the Naked Basics in order of the colours in the palette are:
1. Venus    : 3rd column, 2nd from top
2. Foxy      : 7th column, 1st from top
3. W.O.F   : 7th column, 2nd from top
4. Naked 2: 10th column, 5th from top
5. Fainted  : 10th column, 6th from top
6. Crave    : 3rd column, 1st from bottom

If you already have this palette you would know that Coastal Scents' eye shadows are of good quality and have good staying power. The texture is soft and buttery quite similar to Urban Decay's.

So you decide if you need to own Naked Basics. I must say it is nice to have these basic colours in a nice little compact which you can easily throw into your handbag or makeup pouch .. but not necessary I personally think.

If you are a collector then by all means hit the store and get it. I have called up Sephora at Paradigm Mall and they told me that they have enough stocks if you plan to come in within these next few days.

Have a great evening!

Revlon Colorstay Foundation vs KATE Powderless Liquid for Cover

Hello you beautiful ladies out there

I have recently purchased these two products and will be doing a product smackdown - products are between Revlon a giant cosmetic brand and can be considered a house whole brand and KATE an emerging cosmetic brand here in Asia which is a subsidiary brand of Kanebo. Products are made in USA and Japan respectively.

I will be testing these two products for:
1. their staying power, living in a beautiful country Malaysia where it is hot and humid all year round,
2. to verify their product claims of being suitable for combination to oily skin in terms of oil control on T-zone etc, and
3. their coverage.

I have a medium tan skin tone so my color for Revlon is Early Tan, and as for KATE it is OC-G. In terms of colour selection I must say all stores carry limited colour range here in Malaysian which I believe there are more overseas. It is kind of disappointing especially for us ladies who are between medium to tan skin tone. I mean hey.. People down here are not fair and pale ok..geez.

On first look, the Revlon foundation colour range looked a bit grey for tan Asian skin except for Toast which is the darkest colour available in stores. The KATE ones has less 'grey' effect on the skin. Having said that I had to get their (KATE) darkest shade. ... I mean really it was a pain having to choose from such limited colour range. The other thing is the foundation bottle. KATE has a pump dispenser which is great. The Revlon one however does not have a dispenser so for the price of RM58.90 I personally think the foundation should have a dispenser.

Anyway, I will return with my verdict in two weeks time. These products are my own and not sponsored by any of these companies. Here is a photo of the two products: #Revlon #KATE

Read my verdict here :D
